5 Best German Kitchen Brands

German kitchen brands have set the standard for manufacturing quality. Rooted in the country’s traditional, precision craftsmanship, is it any wonder German manufacturers are some of the highest-grossing in the world?

These luminaries of kitchen design have stayed the course by focusing on the important things: crafting economical, stylish, long-lasting kitchens.

Brands like Nobilia (one of the largest kitchen manufacturers in Europe) have innovated by combining their traditional in-frame painted timber styles with newer features, like handleless designs and high-gloss finishes.

Eggersmann (a company with a 100-year history) continues making waves in 2024 with its tradition-conscious craftsmanship. German kitchens show that to stay on top, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel: you just have to adapt.

1. Bulthaup

Bulthaup is one of the many German kitchen brands that have become synonymous with luxury.

Founded in 1949 by Martin Bulthaup, the company got their start in furniture-making (as many kitchen manufacturers do!) The Bodenkirchen-based workshop soon ventured into sideboards with hand-sewn kitchens.

Collaborations with designers like Otl Aicher in the 1980s led to groundbreaking designs such as the "Kitchen Workbench," which integrated commercial kitchen elements into the home setting. In 2024, Bulthaup kitchens are available in three distinct design categories. Customers can shop for kitchens from their B1, B2 and B3 ranges (or, you can shop for heavily reduced ex-display Bulthaup kitchens with Rehome!)

2. Nobilia

Europe’s largest kitchen manufacturer, Nobilia, produces an impressive 8.5 million units annually. But operations weren’t always so grand.

Established in 1945 by brothers Johann and Willy Stickling, Nobilia began as a small cabinetmaker's workshop in Avenwedde, Germany.

While their initial focus was sewing cabinets, Nobilia’s move into kitchen buffet production marked its entry into kitchen manufacturing. By 1967, the company catered to customs worldwide with their exclusive speciality: fitted kitchens.

Nobilia’s advanced manufacturing technologies have earned their kitchens prestigious certifications, such as the "Golden M" from the German Quality Control Association and the GS quality seal for tested safety. Nobilia kitchens seem to get better with age, guided by their motto:  ‘Quality made in Germany.’

3. Eggersmann

Yet another German manufacturer whose journey began with kitchen buffets, Eggersmann, was established in 1908 by Wilhelm Eggersmann in Hiddenhausen.

From humble beginnings, Eggersmann established a showroom to display their faultless cabinetry (featuring their signature monolithic kitchen units). Over 100 years later, the company’s international success is testament to the brand’s stability.

They were the first German kitchen manufacturer to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), and Eggersmann continues to create kitchens that stand for timeless values in fast-moving times.

4. LEICHT

The LEICHT legacy began in 1928 in Waldstetten. Brothers Alois and Josef Leicht established a small carpentry workshop, crafting high-quality furniture for the community. It wasn’t long before their once-local company expanded into one of the world’s most successful German kitchen brands.

In the 1980s, the company developed the CONTEMPI kitchen system, consisting of a modern form language without traditional wall units. You can still find LEICHT at the forefront of kitchen design innovation today!

Their product lines feature high-quality materials and finishes, such as the BOSSA program in Walnut. LEICHT creates a homogeneous styling of large areas by cladding handleless kitchen runs and units with genuine wood fronts.  (Get yours today with reduced LEICHT kitchens at Rehome!)

5. Bauformat

The Bauformat story starts with the Baumann brothers, who established Gebrüder Baumann, a small joinery in Löhne, East Westphalia, in 1929.

By 1954, Wilhelm Baumann founded the "Wilhelm Baumann" company and employed around 30 people to produce kitchen dressers.

Nearly a decade later, they launched the "bau-for-mat fitted kitchen" product range: Bauformant’s first entry into modular kitchen systems!

1991 saw Wilfried Baumann merge Baumann with another traditional kitchen company, ‘Burger Küchenmöbel’. The two joined forces and began heavily investing in the East German location. Now, Bauformat operates under the umbrella of "The Kitchen Family" alongside brands like Burger and Badea.

Here at Rehome, you can purchase the brand’s signature handleless cabinets and country-style kitchens (all for thousands less than high-street prices!)
