At Rehome, it isn’t just kitchens we sell, and often we get ex-display and pre-loved separate islands that act as the perfect addition to any renovation needing more prep space or simply a hub at the heart of a kitchen. In Becca’s case, this one particular island acted as a catalyst for the renovation of the rest of the kitchen, sparking a truly stunning design…
Becca, an Interior Design Director with a global portfolio of projects, along with her partner Luke, knew exactly what they wanted from the kitchen in their new home. Even before planning permission was secured, Becca had a clear vision, and when she stumbled across a striking green ex-display island on Rehome it immediately became the foundation for their dream space. In fact, they loved the piece they loved so much, they planned their entire kitchen around it.
This was by no means a casual purchase. Becca and Luke were so taken with the island that they bought it before they'd even finished the design or moved house! The island sat safely in storage for over a year whilst the pair relocated and planned the full renovation.

Saving Big, Without Compromising on Style
Buying ex-display doesn’t mean sacrificing quality, style or cohesion. Becca and Luke knew they were saving thousands by shopping through Rehome, but they also wanted their finished kitchen to feel seamless. This is where their careful planning and the right collaborators made all the difference.
Once it was time to bring the full kitchen to life, the couple enlisted the expertise of Callerton Kitchens, a luxury UK kitchen brand with a reputation for combining quality craftsmanship with stunning designs. Not only did Callerton understand the importance of integrating an existing feature like the island, but they also colour-matched the rest of the cabinetry to it.
The result is a space that looks completely cohesive, as though it was all designed and built together from the start, even though the island came pre-loved from Rehome and had been sitting in storage for over twelve months.
A Collaborative Design with a Beautiful Outcome
Becca and Luke enlisted the help of an architect to help with the design of the space, and some helpful builders to install. And of course, Becca’s own design skills were central in bringing the vision to life. The Rehome island was installed and integrated as the centrepiece, with the surrounding cabinetry and layout custom-built around it by Callerton.
The lead time for the Callerton kitchen was just six to eight weeks, so the couple didn’t have to wait long for everything to come together. The end result is a kitchen that is as functional as it is beautiful with beautiful textures like reeded glass, with refined detail in every corner, from complimentary brass hardware to stunning worktops.
Why Rehome?
What makes this project particularly special is that it showcases the possibilities of incorporating high quality ex-display pieces into your home. It proves that buying through Rehome doesn’t limit your design but instead expands it… With the right vision, a piece like a bold island or a freestanding pantry unit can become the inspiration for the whole room.
Not only do you save significantly on high-street prices, but you also gain access to unique statement pieces that are often no longer available elsewhere. Not to mention the sustainable aspect of saving a beautiful piece from being skipped. No one would ever even know Becca and Luke’s island was pre-owned, unless they told them.
By starting with a Rehome find and working with professionals who were willing to collaborate, Becca and Luke created a space that feels entirely bespoke whilst still saving thousands of pounds in the process.
