Michelle and her partner Gary are a busy couple with a busy home that houses them, their son George, and their dog Bobby. Since moving into their new home The Lodge, a charming 1923 bungalow, at the start of 2024, every room has needed attention with renovation plans slowly breathing life back into the tired property.
With the rest of the house coming together, Michelle and Gary left the biggest project, the kitchen and dining space, until last. The old kitchen, although worn out, had done its duty. It was functional but dated and didn’t reflect the bright, family-focused space they imagined for the heart of their home. It also didn’t do justice to the potential of the lovely L-shaped room they had to work with.
When it came time to finally tackle the kitchen, Michelle started gathering quotes and was quickly shocked by how expensive a new kitchen could be. “We were surprised at how expensive everything was,” Michelle said. That’s when she started looking into pre-loved options online. A few evenings of browsing quickly turned into checking measurements, and configurations and then she found it…

A beautiful John Lewis shaker kitchen with green base units, off-white wall cupboards, and a crisp white worktop, exactly what Michelle had always envisioned. “It ticked all the boxes, classic shaker style, green base units, off-white uppers, and a white worktop, which I’d always wanted.” It even came with an island, something they had always dreamed of including in their layout. The detailed information on the Rehome website gave her confidence, and with the help of their trusted kitchen fitter, Michelle confirmed that the setup would work perfectly in their space.

When their offer was accepted, it felt like a huge win for them. Not only did they secure a high-end kitchen at a fraction of the price, but the condition and craftsmanship far exceeded anything they could have bought new within budget. Rehome’s delivery team made the experience even smoother, Michelle noted how they were “Friendly, careful, and everything arrived in perfect condition.”
With their installer on board, the kitchen went in smoothly. Michelle and Gary reused some of their old units in the garage for extra storage, “which meant very little went to waste,” and focused on creating a clean, welcoming space inside. The transformation was almost instant. What had once been a tired, outdated space became the true heart of their home, full of character, warmth, and quality.
They made the kitchen their own without any compromise and saved thousands in the process. Instead of waiting on lead times and paying retail prices, Michelle and her family now enjoy a space that looks and feels brand new but with the added charm of having chosen every detail themselves.
Reflecting on the experience, Michelle shared some words of advice for any fellow renovators. “If you’re thinking about a new kitchen, I’d really recommend having a look at Rehome. Think about your layout- L-shape, U-shape, galley, and take your measurements. If you find something that fits, go for it!”
The family couldn’t be happier with their decision. “It worked wonderfully for us and I hope it can for you too,” Michelle said. With such a positive experience, they wouldn’t hesitate to use Rehome again for future projects, and we hope they do too. A little patience, some thoughtful planning, and a willingness to see the value in pre-loved have given Michelle and her family a kitchen that can be enjoyed for years to come.
