The dismantle that saves a kitchen

Kitchens aren’t one, immovable structure. Most are made from modular units that can be taken apart and rebuilt in a new space. That’s why the second-hand and ex-display kitchen market is so lucrative!

But the finished result (whether your kitchen resells or ends up as a pile of chipped panels) comes down to the dismantle. In every case, a professional removal protects cabinets, worktops and appliances, and sets the next install up for success.

At Rehome, we’re proud of our Which? Trusted Trader–endorsed teams who operate across the UK. They’re fully equipped to handle difficult materials (something we’ll come to later) and remove appliances safely (provided a relevant engineer has checked them).

So, if you want to preserve value and avoid needless breakages, learn more about the dismantling process with Rehome.

What are the benefits of using a professional dismantle service?

1. Avoid avoidable damage

Kitchens are so well-suited to resale because their parts are reusable – but only if they come away intact. Our advice? Non-specialist builders often lack the skills and experience to dismantle a fitted kitchen safely.

That’s especially pertinent if you want to keep avoidable damage to a minimum. But a professional dismantle team prevents any chipped doors or cracked worktops from killing a sale before it even starts.

2. Protect resale value

It’s common sense that buyers pay more for complete sets. Undamaged carcasses, preserved edges, hinges/rails/shelf pins, all bagged and labelled. Rehome’s Which? Trusted Trader service is specifically designed to preserve these details.

Our team will survey first before dismantling methodically and labelling for transport, so your kitchen arrives ready to command the best price.

3. Works on specialist materials

Trained teams know how to handle glass-front cabinetry and every common worktop type: stone, solid surface (e.g. Corian), concrete and stainless, plus safe appliance removal. Having that capability could be the difference between a premium sale.

4. Nationwide coverage & vetted service

Rehome’s dismantle teams cover the whole of the UK and are endorsed by Which? Trusted Traders. This scheme assesses traders and publishes verified customer reviews, of which Rehome holds a 4.8/5 rating from 125 reviews!

What Rehome’s Which? Trusted Trader dismantle service includes

Your dismantle starts with a pre-dismantle survey to confirm measurements, access, risks and the exact scope of works.

As we operate in accordance with the Which? As a Trusted Trader, we set clear standards on clarity of pricing and workmanship. On the day, you’ll be visited by trained specialists who will carry out a professional dismantle of your kitchen.

Fixings are bagged, components are packed and clearly labelled so they’re straightforward to re-install at the new location. Where appliances are involved, gas disconnections should always be completed by a Gas Safe registered engineer (in line with UK law).

Likewise, electrical isolations should be carried out by a competent person in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations. Finally, items are wrapped for protection and loaded for transport.

Special cases we handle

Wondering what makes our services so highly recommended? Our team’s dismantling capabilities aren’t a one-size-fits-all job. We can also work with difficult materials, like solid-surface worktops (e.g., Corian® and Minerva).

These materials are chemically bonded at the seams using specialist adhesives, and because the joints are made to behave like a single piece, safe removal typically requires controlled cutting. The sections will then need to be rejoined by a solid-surface specialist.

In the case of laminate, it’s crucial to note that worktops of this kind are often clamped and sealed at the joints and, depending on how they were fixed, any attempts to separate them can damage the laminate face.

For that reason, we treat damage-free removal as unlikely and exclude laminate worktops from sales.

Seller checklist: preparations that save your kitchen

So, you’re interested in selling your kitchen: what next? Below, we’ve created a condensed list of seller preparations you’ll need to keep in mind.

  1. Start by booking the right people: a Gas Safe engineer must disconnect any gas appliance by law, and a competent, Part P–P-compliant electrician should handle any hard-wired electrics.
  2. Empty every cabinet and drawer in advance and have sturdy crates ready.
  3. Sort access early. Reserve parking for a long van, book the lift in flats, and keep routes clear. You’ll also want a plan to keep children and pets safely out of the work area on the day.
  4. Take quick reference photos: you’ll want pictures of appliance serial numbers, paint colours, and any pre-existing marks. Serial numbers speed up warranty queries!
  5. For laminate worktops, don’t bank on salvage: they’re commonly screwed and spot-glued to units, sealed to tiles, and jointed with bolts and sealant.
