The Great British Kitchen Reuse Report

As the hardest-working room in the house, kitchens can also be one of the most resource-intensive to replace.

But reuse is reshaping that story (particularly when it comes to budgets). Ex-display and approved-used kitchens sidestep the biggest cost drivers of ‘new’. With listings from Rehome, you’re not paying the full retail markup for brand-new stock.

Often, you’re getting showroom-level upgrades bundled in (premium appliances from industry-leading brands), and you can separate supply from installation to control labour spend.

So, what savings can you expect? Our report on The Great British Kitchen Reuse takes a closer look at luxury listings and identifies where specifically homeowners are cutting costs.

But first, we’ll cover the separate fees associated with the purchase and installation of brand-new kitchens. If you’re not convinced by the magic of kitchen circularity, our pound-and-pence picture will provide some much-needed insight.

UK Kitchen Price Snapshot 2025 (new vs ex-display, at a glance)

Before we dive into the numbers, let’s define some of the labels you’ll see in this report:

  • ‘New’: a kitchen supplied as new from a retailer or manufacturer. Totals may be shown as a basket of units, worktops, appliances and trades (such as electrics, plumbing, flooring). Retailers vary in what they bundle, and trade costs may be entirely separate and the buyer's responsibility.
  • ‘Ex-display’: A showroom model that has been on display in a showroom setting (not previously used in a home). Inclusions differ by display (e.g., cabinetry, worktops, sometimes integrated appliances).
  • ‘Approved-used’: A pre-owned kitchen listed through Rehome’s marketplace of approved used and ex-display interiors.

What a new kitchen costs in the UK (2025)

New kitchens often cost more than expected. Even those on the ‘budget’ end of the spectrum can see homeowners setting aside thousands (if not tens of thousands) of pounds.

The budget/small tier suits light makeovers and renovations in compact spaces. At this level, you’re paying mainly for the essentials and speed: fitters remove the old kitchen, install the new one, and keep plumbing/electrics largely where they are to avoid extra trades.

The ‘typical’ category is where most UK kitchens are expected to land in 2025. The average basket (when it includes units, worktops, a sensible appliance set, installation, plumbing, electrics and flooring) comes to £10,550 (and tops out at £28,400 for larger spaces).

Looking for brand-new luxury? When you move towards bespoke layouts, premium worktops (quartz/stone/porcelain), high-spec appliances and specialist joinery (pantries, islands, internal storage systems), prices can range from £30,000 to £55,000.

Some luxury makers even cite £70,000 for custom projects. Prices fluctuate wildly, costs driven up or down by layout changes, tradespeople, worktops, regions and even timing. It’s a complex project to budget for (and this is without installation costs).

Installation-only

You’ve bought the materials, worktops, flooring, etc, now it’s time to find a kitchen fitter. Prices will, again, vary according to the scale of the job. So will timelines, but straightforward installs are often completed in under two weeks once everything is on site.

While these figures are representative mid-points rather than outliers, the typical assumptions behind them include assembly and fixing of units, cutting and fitting worktops, door and handle adjustments and making appliances ready for qualified trades to connect.

Market conditions in 2025 must also be considered. In fact, Checkatrade’s Home Improvement Index for Q2 2025 reports that the average ‘kitchen fitting job’ is down 7% from late 2024, at an average of £6,803.

It’s indicative of a softening labour market, but the guide prices only cover:

  • Removing old kitchen units
  • Installing new sinks, taps and appliances
  • Painting and plastering
  • Tiling floors and walls
  • Removing old kitchen units

Jobs that bundle electrics, plumbing, plastering, and flooring will, inevitably, be priced higher.

Recent Rehome ex-display examples (price vs RRP)

Now, it’s time to look at how much you could save with the UK’s number one Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom outlet. Our goal has always been to break down budget barriers, especially for hardworking homeowners.

Let’s take this Kutchenhaus listing as an example. Scope-wise, the display covers a sink/oven run plus an island.

Door/carcass finishes are Riva Walnut Reproduction and EasyTouch Alpine White (the seller flags Riva Walnut Reproduction as discontinued, while EasyTouch White remains current).

Storage features tall housings, a 400 mm pull-out larder with wirework, wide drawer packs with internal drawers, factory dividers, and cutlery trays, as well as a pole-mounted rail system with integrated lights, shelves, and herb boxes.

Worktops are listed as 20 mm Silestone Aluminio Nube with a waterfall end, and there’s a glass splashback. However, the seller can’t guarantee safe removal of the stone/splashback, so they’re excluded from the price and only provided free if removed intact.

The appliance pack is all AEG: freezer, dishwasher, gas/induction hob, oven, combi-microwave, warming drawer, and a ceiling extractor.

They’re described as being ‘lightly-used’ for demos, and the listing also includes a pop-up worktop socket and two DAR Lighting Alonsa ceiling lights.

This is just one great example of how an ex-display purchase can compress a £40,000 high-street specification into a sub-£10,000 spend – it’s consistent with the 50–70%+ discounts seen across ex-display data.

The Discount Leaderboard (2025)

For the best brands and the biggest savings, who should homeowners be keeping an eye on? We’ve compiled a list of the top six brands where you can expect to see significant cost savings compared to recommended retail prices.

The Schüller/next125 entries top the table because they combine very original specifications with the scale of a top-tier German manufacturer. Schüller is one of Germany’s biggest kitchen makers, and next125 is its premium design line.

Showrooms tend to dress these displays with costly options (pocket doors, internal organisation, tall banks, statement finishes).

When a flagship exhibition set is retired, the RRP is high, and the ex-display clearing price can be dramatically lower (which is exactly what you’re seeing here).

Rank Brand Price RRP Saving
1.  Schuller / Next125 £9,999 £48,000 79%
2.  Kutchenhaus / AEG Appliances £9,749 £40,000 76%
3.  Leicht £3,999 £15,416 74%
4.  Ashley Ann £9,999 £31,000 68%
5.  Next125 £7,999 £25,228 56%
6.  SieMatic / Fisher & Paykel £19,999 £45,000 56%

Kutchenhaus with AEG appliances sits near the top for a different reason.

It’s the UK retail brand for Nobilia, Europe’s largest kitchen manufacturer, so you get big-factory engineering and a full appliance bundle. Displays often include a complete suite (hob/ovens/dishwasher, sometimes cooling) from a mainstream premium brand like AEG.

Ashley Ann is a great contrast: the Scottish manufacturer has its own factory and a long history of bespoke and made-to-order work.

Retail showrooms still need to rotate displays, so even brand-new or lightly handled installations are often heavily discounted at the time of retirement.

Our listings show how a factory-built, UK-made handleless set can clear at roughly two-thirds off when the model or finish cycle moves on! Across our discount leaderboard, the pattern is consistent: displays usually clear at 50–70% below RRP because:

  • The showroom needs to be refreshed
  • Finishes get discontinued
  • Display pieces are often specified far above a typical home renovation

But what does this mean for you, as a buyer? Thanks to the nature of kitchen circularity, ex-display buying can pull luxury-brand cabinetry and appliance packages firmly into mid-market budgets. With our listings (and Rehome’s Which? Trusted Trader dismantle service), you can cut your kitchen budget without compromises.

Each of our listings is quality-checked, our professional dismantle service is included in the price, and Rehome’s specialist team handles collection and nationwide delivery. Start browsing live listings now, and see how far your budget can stretch with Rehome.
