Rebecca Saved £25,000 on a Luxury Kitchen That Was Magazine Famous!
Our latest Q&A is with self-confessed interior obsessive Rebecca, who just loves a renovation. Her latest project? A picturesque holiday homestay in North Wales. With space for ten, she pictured the kitchen as the heart of this family-orientated getaway. It needed to be luxurious and robust, accommodate a large group and be easy to maintain. Pre-owned luxury was the perfect solution!
She saved £25,000 off the OPP of a luxury 3-year-old Rencraft shaker that had graced the cover of the brand’s own brochure, as well as the pages of Period Homes & Interiors magazine.
She now calls it her ‘best ever buy’. With savings like this, we can see why! The kitchen has been reconfigured, refreshed with paint and handles, and styled to match the homestay’s quirky look. Read more about it below:
How did you find out about Rehome?
Our estate agent had actually bought a Diane Berry ex display kitchen from you. We’re in construction, and we’ve always bought everything from trade suppliers before. I was watching the website for a couple of months before this kitchen came up.
What attracted you to this particular kitchen?
The property was going to be a holiday let, so we knew the kitchen would have to withstand extra wear and tear. With a shaker style kitchen that we could keep repainting to keep it looking good! We wanted the kitchen was going to be the hub of the place so it was important that we had a big island. We were very lucky to get this kitchen. It had been featured in a magazine so there was a great picture of it in situ. I could really visualise it. The picture sold it to us.
How did you work out if it would fit into your space?
When we bought the kitchen we were nowhere near ready, the kitchen extension hadn’t even been approved at this time. It was in storage and I designed the space around it.
What changes did you make, if any?
We moved it around so the configuration is a little bit different. We adjusted some of the plinths as we went. The joiner has never put a used kitchen together before. It was very easy for them to work with though. We also had our joiner tag a unit at the end to match. We contacted Rencraft at first but the unit was going to be out of our budget.
How long did the process take?
From buying to the dismantle and delivery we had it in about a month. We paid to have it transported and they (our Which? Trusted Trader dismantle team) delivered it to the property. The delivery was seamless, everything arrived in great condition.
Did you face any challenges along the way?
The only mistake the joiner made was that the kitchen was so luxurious it had a much deeper recess on the work surface than usual – it was 700mm deep rather than 600mm. They set it wrong initially the first time and there was an overhang.
Did you need to source any extras?
We added the oven at the other end to give it some extra symmetry. The taps, dishwasher, and wine fridge all worked, even though they were in storage for a good while.
Tell us about your finishing touches & design choices:
Well, we gave everything a repainted in Farrow & Balls Purbeck Stone. We also changed the handles from chrome to brass finish handles from The Door Handle Company.
I’m a bit of an interior obsessive and we wanted the kitchen to match with the rest of the house. We sourced the bar stools from a skip job and recovered them with Welsh fabric. We’ve used a company called House Of for lighting for the over island lighting – that’s the large blue bulb light that sits over the top.
There you have it – another renovator who’s achieved a luxury result! Rebecca also saved an estimated 4059kg of carbon waste by giving this kitchen a second lease of life – enough to counteract the Carbon footprint of a family of four for a whole year!* If you have questions about buying an approved used kitchen then email us at hello@rehome.co.uk, and remember to follow us on Instagram @Rehomeoutlet for daily inspiration and best deals.
